Oroville CARES is celebrating our 2 year anniversary with a Family Fun Day!

CARES is an acronym for Community Advocates Responding w/Effective Strategies

Oroville CARES Coalition was launched in August of 2015 when a group of

concerned citizens gathered to discuss substance abuse prevention and ways to

protect the youth of our community. Growing numbers of children’s lives are deeply

impacted by the adverse childhood experiences that often accompany substance

abuse, in the homes in which they live. These experiences can affect the child’s

learning, their behavior, their relationships, their health, and sometimes their safety.

As sad as these circumstances are, children are often drawn into the same lifestyle.

We hope to transform a newly formed community coalition of concerned citizens

into an effective body of public servants, synergizing with invested hearts to combat

the growing drug culture in our community.  This growing presence poses a

formidable and ever increasing threat to our young families and innocent children.

We intend to saturate our city and surrounding community with prevention

education resources and outreach opportunities, in order to increase awareness,

enhance skills, and provide support.  We plan to convert our extensive needs

assessment into a manageable framework of action plans, evaluation tools, and

sustainability strategies.   Grant writing will help with funding these efforts.

Every child will be exposed to extensive prevention education, including an

understanding of vulnerability, peer pressure, health impact of substance abuse, and

knowledge of how to build and nurture healthy relationships.  Parents will be

offered factual prevention strategies, effective parenting classes, mentoring, and

referral services.

Oroville CARES Coalition includes members from twelve sectors of our community:

Law enforcement, civic organizations, religious organizations, healthcare

professionals, local government, substance abuse organizations, youth, parents,

business, media, schools, and youth serving organizations.

The overall success of these efforts may be immeasurable when one considers the

generational impact of sparing even one life from the downward spiral of addiction.

As individuals are inspired to make healthy choices, communities thrive and

prosper, creating more opportunity, better education, engaged parents, confident

students, a safer environment, reduced crime, and greater community pride.

Oroville CARES Coalition meets the third Thursday of each month in the Oroville

At the High School "follow the signs". Meeting .from 6 PM-7 PM.  Meetings are open to the public.
