As recorded in the four Gospels, when Jesus was on earth, He encountered two main religious movements.
One group was the Pharisees, and the other was the Sadducees.
When Jesus was on earth, they were the ruling class in Israel. They clung to their religious traditions rather than the Word of God.
Jesus called them hypocrites and said that they were white washed tombs full of dead men's bones. They were very rigid and self-righteous. They hated Jesus and even had Him murdered.
The Pharisees were like many religious people today who are rigid, self-righteous and unforgiving.
This religious group was very liberal. They did not believe in the Word of God or in the resurrection of the dead.
They were like many today who believe that the Scriptures are outdated and irrelevant for us today. They tolerate and encourage immorality; i.e., Adultery, fornication, pornography, and homosexuality.
God is Love, but He is also Just. He is forgiving, but does not tolerate, and will judge willful sin.
Religious Group Today
Today, in a very similar way to the religious groups that Jesus encountered, we are surrounded by two religious’ movements.
On one hand, many are rigid, self-righteous and unforgiving.
They do this in the name of Righteousness. Like the Pharisees, they cling to their own twisted doctrines, traditions, and
On the other hand, many are liberal, tolerating and promoting all kinds of evil. They do this in the name of love, forgiveness and kindness. Like the Sadducees they dismiss the Scriptures as outdated or irrelevant.
We Must be Righteous and Not
Self-Righteous or Unrighteous
We must be loving, forgiving and merciful! But we must also live righteously.
It is not easy, but we can do it. But, with the help of the Holy Spirit, God's Word and true fellowship with other disciples
we can do this.
There will be many on that day that Jesus says, “Depart from Me, I never know you!”2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
Matthew 7: Jesus is the Narrow Way
13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. The Truth:
Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be thrown into the fire?
2 Thessalonians 2: They did not Receive the Love of the Truth, that they might be Saved
8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. The Truth:
Those who did not believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness, will be condemned?
Galatians 1: If anyone Preaches any other Gospel, He is Accursed (cursed)
6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. The Truth:
Anyone who preaches any other gospel, is accursed?
2 Peter 2: If they are Again Entangled, their End is Worse than the Beginning
18 For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.
20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.
21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.
22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb:
“A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”
If a person gets entangled in sin again, after having
known the way of righteousness, their will end be worse than in
Matthew 7: I will declare to them, "I never knew you!"
22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’The Truth:
There will be many on that day, Jesus will declare to them, "I never knew you"?
Matthew 25: The Sheep and the Goats
1 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’ 44 “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”The Truth:
The sheep will inherit the Kingdom, but the goats will go into everlasting punishment!
